The Office of the Dean for Research (ODFR) welcomed two new advisors: Jonathan Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., joined July 1 as senior advisor for computing and data and Daniel A. Notterman, M.D., is vice dean for biomedical and clinical research, effective September 1.

“The University has ambitious research goals related to computation and data as well as a growing portfolio of clinical research,” said dean for research Peter Schiffer. “Jon and Dan’s expertise, their experience, and their ability to bring people together across Princeton’s research enterprise will be instrumental in advancing those efforts.”

As the inaugural senior advisor for computing and data, Jon Cohen provides strategic advice to the dean for research and other campus leaders on issues related to computing and data needs for research across the academic enterprise. Jon is also Robert Bendheim and Lynn Bendheim Thoman Professor in Neuroscience; professor of psychology and neuroscience; associate director of the Natural and Artificial Minds Initiative; and director of graduate certificate programs in statistics and machine learning at Princeton’s Center for Statistics and Machine Learning.

In his new role, Jon plays a leadership role in areas as diverse helping direct major investments in hardware and staff support, managing and supporting large data sets, planning for the support of generative AI in research, and facilitating partnerships with government, industry and foundations. He works closely with the leadership of Research Computing and other campus stakeholders both to inform the University research community about computing and data and to collect feedback to improve the research enterprise.  To read the full story.
