As the first phase of the Health + Life Sciences Exchange, or Helix, building continues construction, a key tenant said it has received a $47.5 million federal grant to help find breakthroughs for some of New Jersey’s most pressing health care needs. The Rutgers Institute of Translational Medicine and Science plans to use the grant to bring together researchers not only from Rutgers but also partners such as Princeton University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and RWJ Barnabas Health. Upwards of 80 investigators are expected to work at the Helix building. “The work being done under this grant is designed to make a difference in the everyday health of our communities,” said Brian Strom, chancellor of Rutgers Health, which oversees the institute, along with eight biomedical schools.
