Dr. Cynthia Koziol-White was just notified of the award of an R56 grant. The R56 mechanism is a means whereby the NIH picks out highly competitive, very novel grants to support for a one-year period to help generate data for a full R01.

The grant title is, “Rhinovirus induces VEGF-dependent modulation of bronchomotor tone and evokes asthma exacerbations.” Dr. Koziol-White will be using lung slices and an epithelial/smooth muscle co-culture system to try to determine the mechanism by which rhinovirus impacts airways.
