Funding Opportunities
RITMS disseminates information on funding opportunities to its members and partner institutions, directly through emails and our website. Additional funding information is available from the Rutgers Office for Research.
Funding New Ideas
Funding to develop new ideas is available through a number of mechanisms, including:
Tri-Institutional Clinical and Translational Science Pilot Program
The Tri-Institutional Clinical and Translational Research (CTR) Pilot Program offers pilot grants to develop and advance innovative clinical and translational research, provide a path to sustainable, extramurally-funded independent research, and encourage the development of innovations with the potential for commercialization. The projects are expected to develop the key preliminary data needed for sustained extramural funding.
Rutgers BHI-RUN-NJIT Pilot Grants in Neuroscience Program
Rutgers BHI-RUN-NJIT Pilot Grants in Neuroscience Program: This program, funded jointly by Rutgers Brain Health Institute and New Jersey Institute of Technology, funds interdisciplinary pilot studies to test new ideas in translational neuroscience and obtain preliminary data to allow funding from external sources. One of the goals of BHI is to establish a rich neuroscience resource in New Jersey that educates the public, clinicians, faculty, and students, as well as state, national, and international health officials. This goal is being achieved by fostering interactions with neighboring NJ institutions that include NJIT, Princeton and Kessler Institute.
HealthAdvance
HealthAdvance provides commercialization funding to assist the development of early-stage life sciences technologies and make them more attractive for continued follow-on investments from industry partners and external investors.
TechAdvance
TechAdvance offers grants of up to $100,000 for promising technologies in areas including life science, physical science, engineering, agriculture and IT that have strong potential for commercial success but are “too early” for investors or industry partners. Successful applicants are eligible for consecutive grants after completion of their initial TechAdvance-funded project. Smaller projects may be eligible for TechXpress, a fast-track program that offers grants of up to $10,000. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis for projects that meet the eligibility requirements.
Charles and Johanna Busch Biomedical Grant Awards
Charles and Johanna Busch Biomedical Grant Awards: These grants, available to RBHS faculty and their collaborators, are designed to enhance health-related research and strengthen competitive position of faculty members to seek external funds.
Rutgers I-Corps Site
The Rutgers I-Corps Site provides training, resources, networking opportunities, and modest funding to assist in transitioning innovations into the marketplace. Students, faculty, and staff from all Rutgers campuses are eligible to apply. The site has been funded by a five-year National Science Foundation grant and is supported administratively by the School of Engineering and the Office of Research and Economic Development.
NIH Funding
NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. There are eight LRPs, five for researchers not employed by NIH (Extramural) and three for researchers employed by NIH (Intramural).
NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs)
- Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Clinical Researchers (LRP-CR)
- Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Pediatric Research (LRP-PR)
- Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Contraception and Infertility Research (LRP-CIR)
- Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Health Disparities Research (LRP-HDR)
- Extramural Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds (LRP-IDB)
