Steven S. An, Ph.D., Principal Investigator

Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. An held the position of Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University. At Hopkins, he had faculty appointments across three schools (School of Public Health, School of Engineering, and School of Medicine) in four academic departments, and was the recipient of the Discovery Awards (2015 & 2016) and the Catalyst Award (2017). Dr. An’s primary research is focused on the mechanobiology of living cells in health and disease. Dr. An has specific expertise in G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling and excitation-contraction coupling mechanisms of airway smooth muscle shortening in the context of obstructive lung disease.

While not in the lab, Dr. An enjoys traveling to “PARTS UNKNOWN”, exploring “BIZARRE FOODS”, and playing “STRAIGHT FLUSH” (2009 American Lung Association ‘Casino Night’ Champion).
